While writing a post about do-follow and no-follow backlinks, we skipped about mentioning what are backlinks, their importance and their types. In this post we will introduce you to backlinks.

Backlinks and their Importance:

Backlinks, also called inbound links, inlinks etc, are links connecting to a blog. These links act as one way door, bringing traffic from one blog but does not mean that backlinks will lose you traffic. These backlinks are of huge importance for webmasters and bloggers. Such links help build traffic and audience and are very authentic source for good traffic. Many bloggers who run new blogs rely on the backlinks in order to build traffic and audience since Google and other search engines cannot index their blog easily.

Furthermore, backlink helps increase Google PR. Powerful backlinks along with good content helps bloggers to achieve good Google PR for their blogs. Many bloggers use guest posts to get a number of good backlinks. Backlinks from good blogs is what gives a good Google PR instead of backlinks from downgraded blogs. Also, it is preferable that they are do-follow backlinks.

Types of backlinks:

Backlinks are of two types:

  • Do-Follow backlinks
  • No-Follow backlinks
Do-Follow Backlinks:

Consider a situation when Google crawlers visits a page or post and they see a backlink, there is a possibility that they visit that page or post connected by that backlink. Now, if crawlers crawl to a page using a backlink, the backlink is said to be a Do-Follow backlink. When creating backlinks, we are basically creating Do-follow backlinks rather than the other backlink. If you have a new blog or just posted a new article, then there is a possibility that Google crawlers may not crawl over that post. It will result in the post not getting indexed. To avoid this, bloggers use Do-follow backlinks.

No-Follow Backlinks:

No-Follow backlinks are those which do not allow Google crawlers to crawl over to a page connected by a backlink. Usually bloggers block the page because the article connected by backlink may not be of high value or importance. If Google Crawlers crawl to that page, it may cause the blogger to lose Google PR. Whenever you are linking to a blog or page of low value, then we use rel=”nofollow” attribute to block such backlinks from Google crawlers to index.

Since you may be wondering how to recognize such backlinks, we have the article ready for you.
